12 Reasons to Move to a Small Town

July 7, 2023 By Jennifer Hayes

City slickers, listen up! Small-town living can be the bee’s knees. Don’t believe me? Here are my 12 reasons why moving to a small town can make your life sweeter than a Tennessee honey pie:

1. Friendlier Folks

As surprising as a cat in a hen house, but folks in small towns seem to have friendliness built right into their DNA. They’ll know your name, your dog’s name, and the kind of coffee you like!

2. Less Hustle and Bustle

A small town is like a slow cooker—things take time, but they turn out deliciously well. The slower pace can do wonders for your stress levels.

3. Lower Cost of Living

Your wallet will thank you! Small towns often have a lower cost of living compared to their big city counterparts.

4. Closer to Nature

Swap the concrete jungle for the actual wilderness. Whether you love hiking, fishing, or just quiet walks, small towns offer a closer connection to Mother Nature.

5. Less Traffic

Say goodbye to rush hour! The commute to work might just become your favorite part of the day. Not to mention, your car’s honk will feel pretty lonesome.

6. Starry Nights

With less light pollution, you’ll finally understand why they wrote so many songs about starry skies. Stargazing, anyone?

7. Rich Local Culture

Small towns are often bursting with unique local traditions, festivals, and community events. It’s the charm that big cities often aspire to clone.

8. Safer Neighborhoods

In a small town, everyone knows everyone—making it less likely for crime to go unnoticed. It’s a community that looks out for each other.

9. Tight-knit Community

Think of it as a large extended family. You’ll see familiar faces wherever you go and form close bonds. Don’t be surprised if you end up knowing more folks than at your high school reunion!

10. Great for Raising Kids

From safer neighborhoods to quality time with nature, small towns can offer an idyllic setting for raising children. Plus, smaller classrooms can mean more attention for your little ones.

11. Support for Local Businesses

Your entrepreneurial dreams have a great chance here. Small towns love their local businesses and often support them over large chains.

12. The Joy of Simplicity

Living in a small town often means embracing a simpler, quieter lifestyle. The beauty of smallness…provides space for the important.

So, my city-loving friends, let’s trade in those skyscrapers for silos. Because sometimes, less truly is more!
